WITHToday, nose reshaping or rhinoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the world. And this is not surprising, because such a procedure can correct or radically change facial features, make them more graceful and harmonious, and therefore give a woman confidence in herself and her beauty.

But, like any injection or surgery, rhinoplasty raises a number of fears and doubts. Personal experience of rhinoplasty of BeautyHack editor Natalia Kapitsa can be found at link

And to understand all the exciting issues BeautyHack was helped by plastic surgeon Dmitry Mikhailovich Saratovtsev

What is Rhinoplasty?

First of all, an operation such as rhinoplasty is aimed at correcting the shape of the nose and its size. Also, rhinoplasty allows you to eliminate some pathologies that could arise as a result of injuries – today it is rhinoplasty that allows you to completely restore the nose after serious injuries.

Rhinoplasty of the tip of the nose. Often such a procedure is carried out only for aesthetic reasons – someone wants a more contoured tip of the nose, and someone wants to lift it. During such an operation, the surgeon only touches the cartilage and soft tissues. If we talk about in what cases the doctor may advise to do rhinoplasty of the tip of the nose, then it will be the unevenness of the nose or the inharmony of its shape, pronounced deformation of the tip or its excessive drooping, as well as excessive sizes of the nose that do not fit the facial features and can distort the face person (stars who benefited from plastic surgery, see here).

Rhinoplasty of the wings of the nose. Ideally, the wings of the nose should be symmetrical, but by nature this is not always the case. Rhinoplasty of the wings of the nose allows you to eliminate differences in their size, shape or configuration. Usually, the surgeon performs the plastic surgery of the wings of the nose already at the final stage of the operation. Indications for this type of rhinoplasty are: fleshy, wide and thick nostrils; jagged nostrils or nostrils with deflection of the wings, which could result from trauma. Also, the doctor may advise to do rhinoplasty of the wings of the nose if they look unaesthetic and visually enlarge the nose.

Rhinoplasty of the hump of the nose. A hump in the dorsum of the nose appears due to the peculiarities of the formation of bone and cartilage tissue. It is the hump that creates an uneven contour of the nose, protruding above its back. Such a defect can be “inherited” or appear as a result of damage. Rhinoplasty of the hump of the nose will correct this deficiency. Such an operation consists in removing part of the cartilage and bone tissue, as well as straightening the back of the respiratory organ.

Rhinoplasty of the nasal septum, or septoplasty. An operation that is precisely aimed at correcting various curvatures of the nasal septum and eliminating its pathologies. Septoplasty is performed for both medical and aesthetic reasons. With the help of such an operation, you can normalize breathing and get rid of some diseases that could appear due to the curvature of the nasal septum.

The main types of rhinoplasty

When carrying out plastic surgery on the nose, depending on the access options, the following types of rhinoplasty are distinguished:

Open rhinoplasty. In this case, the incision passes between the nasal openings and on the wings of the nose, in the places where they join the lip – the surgeon lifts the skin over the cartilage and performs the necessary manipulations. This technique is used in cases that do not allow you to achieve the desired goal in another (closed) way. The disadvantage of open rhinoplasty is the formation of a barely visible postoperative scar and damage to the arteries.

Closed rhinoplasty. This method of performing the operation is more modern and aesthetic. All incisions take place in the nasal cavity – closed access is carried out along the inner surfaces of the nose. During the operation, the nasal septum is not involved in any way and its tip does not stop supplying blood. Therefore, rehabilitation after such an operation is faster. In addition, closed rhinoplasty completely eliminates the possibility of a noticeable scar.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that closed rhinoplasty is considered a complex operation that requires jewelry precision and skill of the surgeon. Compared to the open method, this method of performing the operation is less traumatic – it excludes damage to the arteries and disruption of tissue nutrition. Also, with a closed access, all incisions are sutured with absorbable sutures, so there is no need to remove the sutures after the operation. And the postoperative scars themselves remain invisible, as they are located in the nasal cavity.

Endoscopic rhinoplasty. During the operation with this method, the entire process of the surgical intervention is broadcast on monitors. For this, special instruments with microscopic cameras are used. Thanks to this, the desired result can be achieved by performing jewelry manipulations with the patient’s tissues. One of the main advantages of endoscopic rhinoplasty is the absence of scars and scars, and its main difference from traditional methods is endoscopic assistance to the operation, which is represented by high-precision optical devices that transmit everything in 3D to a high-resolution monitor.

Mixed rhinoplasty. A method of performing an operation that is currently no longer used by surgeons.

Preoperative examination and recovery

Any operation must be taken seriously and must be properly trained. Rhinoplasty is no exception! If you decide to correct the shape of the nose for medical or aesthetic reasons, then after consulting with a plastic surgeon, you will receive a full laboratory diagnosis – the results of all tests will be valid only for 10-14 days! Before the operation, you will be asked to pass both general tests and other necessary laboratory tests, such as, for example, an ECG, vein ultrasound or fluorography.

As for the recovery after rhinoplasty, immediately after the operation, tampons are installed in the nasal passages – they can be removed only the next day, as well as a plaster cast is applied to the nasal area, which must be worn for the next 7 days. The stitches and plaster cast are removed on the 7th day after the operation, and a fixation bandage is applied to the nose for another week. Also, in the first week after surgery, bruises and swelling may appear on the face, so the first 2-3 weeks can be called the primary recovery period. After completing this stage, you can return to workdays.

You can see the full result and update of the shape of the nose in about 11-12 months (you will learn how to correct facial features with the help of cosmetics here). But, of course, if you follow the recommendations of your doctor exactly, you may be able to go through the stages of rehabilitation much faster.

Rhinoplasty surgery is absolutely contraindicated in cases of serious illness or chronic diseases in a severe form, as well as in acute infectious diseases and blood clotting disorders.
