WITH every woman has experienced skin inflammations at least once. It’s good if the rashes disappear without a trace, but what to do if acne caused not only a lot of unpleasant sensations, but also left ugly spots, pits and scars in memory of themselves.

Doctor-cosmetologist Tatyana Mikheeva helped us to figure out how to restore beauty to the skin and get rid of post-acne.

What is post acne?

Negative environmental influences, numerous pollution, illiterate care and hormonal changes can cause acne or acne (8 reasons for this problem you will find here). If inflammation is improperly treated – cauterized with potent agents or squeezed out, they can leave traces: spots and scars. Some of them brighten over time and disappear without additional intervention, while others remain on the skin – it will be much more difficult to remove them without the help of a specialist.

Under no circumstances should you touch your face in places of inflammation or squeeze acne yourself. In the face area, we have a strong blood supply, so the infection can penetrate deep inside, which threatens not only further rashes, but also more serious consequences.

What types of acne are there?

Several forms of acne marks are classically distinguished:

Scars – one of the most common types of acne. They can be of different shapes and depths, wide or narrow, often resembling depressions or tubercles.

Scars are formed due to trauma to the skin in the area of inflammation – tissues atrophy, collagen production is disrupted, so the skin cannot restore its previous shape – as a result, an ugly mark remains. Or, conversely, the production of collagen at the site of inflammation – a kind of protective reaction – is enhanced, so protruding keloid scars appear on the surface of the skin.

Red spots – such marks remain on the skin where acne appears. Often the spots disappear on their own after a few months, but in some cases, cosmetic treatments may be required. If this defect is not eliminated in time, then red spots can become pigmented. This is due to the fact that the injured skin activates all defense mechanisms, including the increased production of melanin, a pigment that protects skin cells from ultraviolet radiation.

Pigmented spots, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation – a form of post-acne that appears on the skin due to increased synthesis of melanin at the site of local inflammation, and their intensity and depth depend on the severity of the inflammatory process, skin structure and treatment.

In what ways can post acne be removed?

Before proceeding with the elimination of cosmetic defects, you need to make sure that acne is cured (the dermatologist tells the myths and truths about problem skin here). If the inflammatory process is not stopped, then acne will reappear, and new marks and scars will begin to form at the site of acne.

Also, before starting treatment, it is worth visiting a dermatologist or cosmetologist. Only a specialist will be able to assess the situation and prescribe the means that are suitable for solving your particular problem. Self-medication is definitely not worth it.

Remedies for eliminating traces of post-acne at home include:

Creams and serums with ANA (alpha hydroxy acids) – contain acids, due to which they effectively exfoliate the top layer of the skin: pigmentation spots become lighter, and the skin surface is smoothed.

Peels with lactic acid – work in the same way as AHA products. They improve skin texture and lighten pigmentation. For the best effect, peels should be used in a course – once a week for two to three months.

Salicylic acid products – this ingredient is considered one of the best for acne scars. Salicylic acid unclogs pores, reduces puffiness and relieves redness, and exfoliates the skin.

What salon procedures will help remove acne marks?

Deeper and more visible acne marks can be removed with a variety of cosmetic procedures:

Chemical peels for the procedure, special active compounds with a high concentration of acids are used. They dissolve the top layer of the skin and make acne marks less noticeable, and over time, scars and blemishes completely disappear. But such a procedure is not the most pleasant and may require a recovery period – chemical peeling should be done only under the supervision of a qualified specialist (a special correspondent of BeautyHack told about salon peeling with vitamin C in this material).

Dermabrasion a procedure that removes the top layer of the skin using a special apparatus with various cutters or brushes – such grinding leads to the fact that the damaged skin or scar is gradually erased. After dermabrasion, collagen production is enhanced, the skin surface is leveled and smoothed. But the procedure can be a little traumatic, so a recovery period will be required.

Laser resurfacing – one of the types of dermabrasion, only during the procedure the top layer of the skin is removed not with the help of a special nozzle, but with laser flashes. Laser resurfacing is a painful procedure and is performed under local anesthesia.

Whichever method of acne treatment you choose, you should use a sunscreen with a high UV protection factor during treatment so as not to provoke the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

What home remedies can make acne marks less noticeable?

Apple cider vinegar can help get rid of red spots. It should be mixed with water in a ratio of 1: 3 and rubbed over the skin with this lotion once a day. Or soak a cloth napkin with the composition and apply it like a mask on your face for 5 minutes – this procedure can be repeated every other day.

Lemon or grapefruit juice can also help whiten your skin. Dilute it with water in a 1: 1 ratio, freeze it and rub the acne marks with an ice cube morning and evening.
