The Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said that the bill on the prevention of domestic violence will be submitted to the State Duma for consideration in the autumn session. This was reported by Vedomosti. According to Matvienko, the goal of the law is to draw attention to the problem of domestic violence in Russia and the importance of its prevention. She noted that the bill was not brought up for discussion for a long time due to the presence of radical points of view and the difficulty of working out “some kind of compromise”.
“We think that we will eventually introduce a law that causes a very serious public outcry – on the prevention of domestic violence,” she said. – It is acceptable for introduction already, discussion at the site of the State Duma and in the first reading, between the first and second reading. It must be accepted. Already in the public consciousness there is an understanding that such a law should be in the country. We will actively promote it. “
